Aboriginal Career Learning Immersion program

Senior Pathways, Pathways and Transitions and Aboriginal Outcomes and Partnerships directorate piloted an Aboriginal Career Learning Immersion program in 2020.

The aim of the program is to improve attainment for Aboriginal students through increased engagement, building skills and knowledge pertaining to the world of work and career pathway options. This program aims to inform participating students of potential career pathways and prepare them for transition to employment, training and further education.

The one-week pilot program ran at Menindee Central School in December 2020 and involved thirteen students from Menindee and Ivanhoe Central schools. Menindee, Ivanhoe and Wilcannia Central schools worked collaboratively to ensure the pilot program was an exciting workplace learning engagement opportunity for students with a focus on bush tucker, agrifood, tourism, travel and hospitality industry

The week culminated in a long lunch event for sixty guests, held at Menindee Central school. Students worked to cook, present the menu under the guidance of chefs Lee Cecchin, Adam Moore and Billy Fox and their Hospitality teacher Elizabeth Clenton.

We look forward to another successful program in 2021.
