Career Taster Program

The Career Taster Program (CTP) is a Western Australian initiative designed to help Year 9 students explore career pathways through engaging, hands-on experiences. The aim is to inspire students by exposing them to the world of work and training, helping them make informed decisions about their future.

About the Year 9 Career Taster Program

The Career Taster Program (CTP) is a WA Government initiative aimed at supporting early career discovery in Year 9, and for students to participate in practical industry-based experiences and engage with the world of work.

The program aims to provide students with earlier access to career exploration to gain an understanding of all education and training pathways and post-school options before they make subject selections for Years 11 and 12. The CTP provides a combination of taster experiences and career development curriculum, providing schools the flexibility to design career exploration experiences that allow students to learn about different industries, occupations, and career and training pathways.

Tasting Plate - Connecting Food, Culture and Careers

As part of the Career Taster Program, Tasting Plate delivers a distinctive experience that blends culture, food and career exploration.

Students work alongside our chefs to prepare a variety of recipes featuring native bushfoods, gaining practical skills while learning the stories behind local ingredients. These workshops offer authentic, hands-on opportunities to explore pathways in hospitality, tourism, and agri-food industries (and many more), while strengthening connections to Country and culture.

PPP Tasting Plate is more than a taster—it’s an invitation to explore pathways in food, culture, and enterprise, creating experiences that are meaningful, memorable, and future-focused.

On the Road

The Prepare Produce Provide (PPP) team travel across WA – bringing bushfoods, storytelling and serious flavour to local high schools and colleges. The team deliver a series of workshops that are more than just cooking — they are about connection, culture, community and building confidence.

The students get to explore native ingredients, learn new techniques, and celebrate their stories through food, while discovering pathways into hospitality and food careers. They experience the power of food as a way to share culture, identity, and stories.

Through hands-on learning, students explore the art of working with native ingredients and crafting dishes that connect culture and community under the guidance of the PPP team.

It’s about more than just cooking — it’s about identity, opportunity and opening doors for Indigenous students and offering a real taste of what a future career in the hospitality industry could look like and empowering the next generation through food.

Our Team

Our expert team—Chef Tanya Healy, Chef Dan Lyndon, Chef Melissa Palinkas along with Trainer Andrea Mitchell—brings creativity and industry knowledge to every session.

Together, they guide students through interactive activities that showcase the richness of regional produce and highlight exciting career opportunities within the culinary and tourism sectors.

PPP Tasting Plate is more than a workshop—it’s a celebration of local identity and a gateway to future careers.
