Susan Whelan

A high school work experience stint in the kitchen of a reputable Dublin restaurant may have turned Susan Whelan off life as a professional chef but it piqued what has led to a lifelong interest in the hustle and bustle of the hospitality industry. 

Attracted to the buzz of life front of house, Susan spent her formative years working in some of Dublin’s most revered fine dining restaurants where she refined her managerial skills and honed her knowledge of wine. 

Partners in business and in life, Susan and Chef Melissa met in Dublin before travelling together through Europe, the US and New Zealand, eventually settling down together in Perth. 

From working in Cottesloe cafes to King Street bistros and managing successful local venues including Mash Brewing in the Swan Valley and the Rose & Crown Hotel in Guildford, Susan and Melissa became co-owners of Young George. 

Susan is an innovator behind using native ingredients in mocktails including the use of unique, regional flavours like finger lime. She is driven by a desire for sophisticated and alcohol-free options
